Who We Work With

Multi-Family Repiping Services

Planned around residents, owners and the board.

  • Whole-building repipes

Mains, risers and unit branch lines replaced with PEX or copper, phased by building, stack or floor.

  • Unit and stack repipes

Targeted repipes where only certain stacks or buildings are failing.

  • Riser and main replacement

Corroded risers and mains replaced, with new isolation valves for each riser or branch.

  • Hot water recirculation

Recirculation loops and pumps so upper floors and far units get hot water quickly.

  • New shutoffs everywhere

Unit and fixture shutoffs installed so future repairs affect one unit, not a building.

  • Access and patching

Small, planned openings patched and ready for paint; we coordinate any finish work.

What Managers and Associations Say

  • We hired CPI for a complete house repipe and an addition of a water recirculation system. They did an excellent job. The workers were friendly, they cleaned up after themselves, they didn’t hesitate to ask if they had any questions and we were assigned a project manager to ensure that the job went smoothly. They handled permits and inspections very well. Everything went smoothly. They were definitely worth the money. I wish all of our home improvement jobs had gone this well. I definitely recommend them.

    Tanja F.Yelp review

  • Today we had a major underground hot water leak that affected 8 units. Daniel came out and used his experience to find and isolate the issue by installing ball valves on the manifold allowing us to have water. Very happy with the service. Way to go Daniel and way to go CPI!!!!!!

  • I have called on CPI multiple times. The first time was a critical emergency to replace hot & cold lines to an outside building which failed due to age and natural deterioration. The second and third times were minor interior jobs. Today they replaced and upgraded the main line from the street to our home. Next, I plan to have them take care of everything for a new home we’re planning to build. These guys are awesome. They can handle any size job. Prices are fair. I like Matt a lot. Attention to detail and quality is fantastic. Highly recommend.

Is It Time to Repipe Your Building?

Signs we see in South Bay apartment and condo buildings.

  • Repeated pinhole leaks

Several leaks in a few years usually means the piping is failing throughout, not in one spot.

  • Galvanized or polybutylene pipe

Galvanized steel in buildings from before the 1970s and polybutylene from the 1980s and 1990s are both known to fail.

  • Low pressure upstairs

Corroded piping narrows over time, and upper floors feel it first.

  • Slow hot water

Long waits for hot water in far units point to failing piping or a missing recirculation loop.

  • Insurance and lenders

Recurring water damage claims can affect premiums; a repipe documents the fix.

  • Reserve studies

Phasing lets HOAs fund a repipe over several budget years.

Planning a Multi-Family Repipe

Start with a survey. We look at the mains, risers and a sample of units, check pressure at different floors, and note pipe materials, valve condition and access in walls, ceilings and crawlspaces. That survey drives the scope, phasing and price.

Choose the phasing. Large buildings are usually repiped one stack, floor or building at a time. Phasing keeps the number of residents affected on any day small and lets owners or HOAs spread the cost across budget periods.

Communicate early. Residents need notice of the dates, the water-off windows and what access we need inside their units. We provide notice wording and coordinate access with your staff.

Add what you’ll want later. A repipe is the cheapest moment to add unit shutoff valves, riser isolation valves, a recirculation loop for faster hot water, and pressure regulation where street pressure is high (the plumbing code requires a regulator above 80 psi).

Permits. In San José a repipe needs a plumbing permit, and buildings of more than four units need plans through standard plan review, as does any repipe that affects shear walls, firewalls or structural members. We prepare the submittal and schedule each phase’s inspections.

Close out with records. At the end you get inspection sign-offs and notes on routing and valve locations, useful for future service and for insurers and lenders.

We plan and phase multi-family repipes in Sunnyvale, Mountain View and Campbell as well as San Jose; see the service area page for other cities.

Multi-Family Repiping FAQs

Can residents stay during a repipe?

Yes. Water is off only in planned daytime windows and restored at the end of most days.

PEX or copper for a multi-family repipe?

Most of our multi-family repipes use PEX: fewer fittings, faster installation through existing walls, and no pinhole corrosion. Copper is a good choice where it's exposed or preferred by the owner.

How is this work priced?

Service and repair work is priced at a flat rate or on an hourly basis. Larger projects are custom quoted after we see the site. Emergency and after-hours work is priced separately.

Can the repipe be phased over time?

Yes, by building, stack or floor, which helps HOAs and owners spread the cost.

Who handles permits and inspections?

We do, and we schedule the inspections for each phase.
